OKiKi was invited to visit the Canadian navy frigate ¡°REGINA¡±!

At the friendly invitation of the Canadian Consulate and the captain of the Canadian navy frigate ¡°REGINA¡±, The Eagles and Sharks Classes of OKiKi Kindergarten paid a visit to this imposing naval frigate anchored at Huang Pu River. We asked a number of staff members to share the thought on this unforgettable experience with you.

OKiKi Kindergarten was the only kindergarten invited to visit the frigate.

(by Eric, Head Teacher, OKiKi SSNH Kindergarten)

On August 18th, OKiKi kindergarten visited the Canadian navy frigate "REGINA" witch arrived in Shanghai's Yangtze River port Tuesday August 16, with 233 people on board, for a 6-day friendly visit. The vessel is commanded by Commodore Bruce Donaldson, Commander of the Canadian Pacific Fleet. The REGINA entered service on Sept. 30. 1994. This is the fifth time the Canadian warship has visited Shanghai.

Accompanied by their English teachers Eric and John, the students were able to visit the ship, to sit in the captain¡¯s chair and had the opportunity to watch a firefighter dress for duty. All assigned officers took good care of the children. They also gave all children gifts of their memorable tour. In return, OKiKi gave the Captain and the crew a beautiful card with the pictures of the Eagles and The Sharks students in their classroom. OKiKi was the only kindergarten in China to visit the frigate.

High-class service builds a high-class team: My experience during my visit to the Canadian navy frigate
(Xu Juan, teacher at OKiKi Kindergarten)

On Aug. 18th, 2006, a beautiful sunny day, the children the OKiKi international classes and I went to visit a Canadian frigate. The children said we were going to visit a ship, but Teacher Lin corrected us saying we would be visiting a frigate. It was then that I realized how significant the activity would be. When I reached the pier, I was amazed at the size of the huge ship in front us. What an imposing ship! All I wanted was to take a photograph as a memento, but it¡¯s too big! I had to take two phones, each of half the ship.
Many of us had seen oil tankers before, but had had little opportunity to step on board a frigate. It was an opportunity for children and me to experience the difference between a frigate and a ship. From the sailors¡¯ explanations, I learnt that there were some special facilities on board such as helicopters, life boats, and cannons. These were things I had only ever seen on TV before. I also noticed that the soldiers were armed as they stood guard, and greeted us as professional sailors.

They showed us around the frigate for almost two hours, and we learnt a lot from their tour. The children were obviously excited. What impressed me most during the visit was their high-class service.

All the sailors were waiting for us under the ladder when we arrived, and among whom there was a ¡°bear¡±! The children were excited to see this bear, and I was surprised by such a grand welcome in such hot weather! The ¡°bear¡± accompanied us until the end of our tour. He amused children and hugged each child. They all liked him very much. He posed for photos and we took a lot of great pictures. We often asked him, ¡°Are you hot? Please have a rest.¡± But he always shook his head. At the end of our day we didn¡¯t want to leave!

The ladders on the frigate were very steep and were difficult for children to climb. Some tall sailors were standing beside them. They helped our students and encouraged them to be brave. Although it was hard for us to understand some of their accents, the children understood and bravely climbed the ladders. They paid great attention to our students and when they fired the guns, they suggested that the children cover their ears in case against the loud noise. I was very moved.

¡°A teacher should be attentive to each student¡±, is a philosophy we teachers like to adhere to, and the sailors felt this way too. When the children were trying on fire hats they didn¡¯t miss one child, and always asked, ¡°Do you want to try?¡± They also asked what color they would like, the red ones or yellow ones. In the Captain¡¯s Room, a sailor let each child sit in the Captain¡¯s Chair one by one. Each child acted out being the Captain with his help.

The service they provided us with was so high-class, they were high-class marines. Therefore, I think the service we provide to our parents and children should also be high-class, and thus our kindergarten will become a high-class kindergarten.

Perfect discipline, and excellent quality
(Amy, General Management Department manager)

Today, I went with the Eagle and Shark Classes to visit a Canadian frigate. I felt the trip was well organized and fun. During our visit I was moved by many things, those of particular interest are as follows:

1. Liang Liang, who is in International Kindergarten 2, bumped into an arc iron pipe. After the accident a very tall Canadian naval officer came over. He bent down and lifted the iron pipe with his hands until all the children went through.
2. The ladders were very steep, and these tall Canadian naval officers always stood by to safeguard our children from any danger.
3. In order to let our children experience playing the ship¡¯s captain, a soldier patiently carried each child to the captain¡¯s seat one by one.

They perfectly thought out every detail. They are not service providers but tall and brave soldiers. I was greatly satisfied by the trip.

The happy time will always be in our mind
(Choli, the teacher of Eagle Class)

Today, I visited a Canadian frigate and was as excitedly as our children. It was a rare opportunity, and even the parents felt honored when they heard the news!

We arrived at the pier where the frigate was anchored on Huangpu River with expectations. We were all amazed by the huge hull. It was not only the first time for the children to see a ship of this size, but for many of the teachers as well. The captain and the crew welcomed us, and their smiling faces seemed to make our two countries closer. The children were all curious about the rare scene around them. The frigate was a strange environment for us. All the children bravely walked around the ship, while they were curious, they were a little scared as-well.

The visit impressed us a lot, and all our students were very happy. Some children excitedly told us that they would visit some frigates, to see the cannons and life boats again. I¡¯m sure there were many stories told to parents that night about what a wonderful day we all had!
